Whitegate Lane Bar Reveal
Repeat clients are our favorite kind of projects, and phase II of the Whitegate Lane project is no exception! There is an inherent trust, a familiar communication style preference, and quicker design development. When the homeowners of Whitegate Lane came to us ready for renovations on all three levels the Jkath team was excited to work with them again.
Today we’re revealing a fun + colorful space: the lower level bar!

After 20 years in this home phase II included finishing the lower level. This project added much needed entertainment space for 2020, including a media area, fitness room, bathroom and an incredibly fun bar.
Modern Plumbing Selections
It’s no surprise we love a clean and modern aesthetic to bend with otherwise traditional elements. This project, much like our Drew Avenue project, we partnered with Kraus USA for our bar sink and bar faucet. Visit our previous post on How to Select Plumbing for a Whole House. There is nothing more classic than a stainless steel undercount sink – we opted for the Standard PRO 17″ sink, easy to clean and easy on the eyes. Paired with one of our favorites, the Oletto™ bar faucet in a spot free stainless finish. Entertaining for our clients has never been so easy, with many post COVID gatherings on the horizon.

Tile with Style
The obvious place to start is the fun tile installation! The homeowners knew they wanted to accomplish a colorful ombre tile mosaic somewhere in their home. The bar was the perfect place to set the tone for fun entertainment.
We mixed three Fireclay Tile 6″ hexagon matte colors: Peacock (bottom), Morning Thaw (middle) and Daisy (top). Instead of going all the way up to the ceiling we opted for a fun live edge detail to end the tile, leading up to the sconces by Dutton Brown, a Minnesota local lighting company.

Reclaimed Wood
It’s not a secret, we love using reclaimed wood! It’s a sustainable product that adds so much character to a space. We used reclaimed antique elm from Manomin Resawn Timbers in the bar, including to panel the wine refrigerator, beverage center, and dishwasher drawer. The rustic texture of the cabinets and floating shelves complements the modern tile.

This antique brass wreath from Haus Theory in North St. Paul is one of my favorite pieces to put up each year.
Check out all the local craft brews in the beverage center too!

This lower level bar is ready for fun and year round entertaining. We can’t wait to reveal the other spaces, including owner’s bathroom and main floor mudroom area, in the new year!
