Sunday Saves: Summer in the City
Week of July 6th
We’re loving Summer in the city. There are so many activities to keep us busy, we thought we’d share a few that have SAVED us in the past few weeks. And a few fun activities we’re looking forward to as well.
Minneapolis Farmers Markets + CSA Shares
One of the most important things our family does each year is sign up for our CSA, and visit our local farmers markets. While our local CSA at Tangletown Gardens is sold out, you can read more here and prepare for next Summer. Also, they have fall and winter shares available. AND, you can still visit their restaurant, transitioned into a local market for the season, selling fresh and local produce, eggs, proteins, coffee, beer, honey and so much more.
We’re also taking it to the local markets, we often prefer the smaller and more quaint options. Kingfield Market tops the list, we’re headed there this weekend!

Recipes We’re Loving
With our fresh produce haul, we’re experimenting with new ingredients and continue to introduce our kids to new foods. Man, I wish I had this growing up (we had canned vegetables, meat and potatoes for every meal). This weeks finds:
Lemony Collard Greens Pasta – awesome vegetarian find by Cookie and Kate.
Roasted Turnips – by Delicious Little Bites

Red Barn Farm of Northfield
Ok we can’t claim this is a ‘city’ spot, but a 45 minute drive to Northfield from Minneapolis, you can reserve your own picnic spot, BYO blanket, chairs + beverages (alcohol too!). This has always been on our list, with very few scheduled activities this summer for the kids, we’re also headed there this week.

Yard Games for the Whole Family
Our kids have become obsessed with Kan Jam, and possibly the adults have too. But our 14 year old can be spotted biking to her friends house with this game over her shoulder, a hilarious site. We’re considering packing it up and taking it with us to the beach this Summer when headed to Cannon Beach. Or maybe a new carry on item .. hmmm.
Spike Ball, Kick Ball + our JBL Outdoor Speaker are popular items around our house this time of year as well.

Outdoor Dining
We’ve managed to find our way to a few favorite patios this season as well. I love the phrase, we’ve needed restaurants in the past, NOW restaurants need us. What a great reminder to take a break and enjoy the fresh air, good company and help support a small local business.
Last week we stopped by Young Joni’s outdoor beer and taco pop up, with not enough shade cover (it was a hot one!) we ventured over to Centro in NE Minneapolis. It was perfection, the menu had a wide variety and ordering was a breeze.
A few other local favorites: Italian Eatery, Sand Castle at Lake Nokomis, Mill Valley Market at Theodore Wirth Parkway, + Izzy’s Ice Cream in the Mill City District.

When asked, how are you inspired, all of the above is the easiest way for me to find creative energy. Experiencing our local culture, sharing community and trying new things. I find myself equally inspired and recharged. What inspires you? Share below.
Thanks for following along + happy Summer days ahead.
