Six Fresh Design Ideas for 2024

Our latest reveal in 2024 showcases six fresh design trends, just in time for what’s trending in the new year. Our design team curated the list last year when predicting what we will see more of in the projects ahead. As we wrap up an 18-month project, we’re seeing these ideas come to life, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

CLOSED FLOORPLAN

With a peekaboo into the kitchen, this floorplan prioritized compartmentalized living areas. A double-sided fireplace allows access from the living room and the kitchen areas. We are seeing more homes prioritize this function, as it may be within the existing footprint to leave the walls alone, not expand, and embrace the uniqueness of each livable space.

SMARTER STORAGE

Panel-ready appliances continue to prevail. This becomes even easier in areas not previously considered, such as dry bars, office, and pantry areas for a seamless integration and optimal storage function. Maximizing cabinetry with full-height storage, using glass partitions, and a combination of open and closed storage also add character and function to each space.

DARKER WOOD TRENDS

What we love about this space is the blend of wood elements. The kitchen alone uses walnut, character-grade oak, and black-stained oak on the island. Wood elements add warmth and a maintenance-free component that paint-grade options lack. Blending wood tones with contrasting lighter walls, fresh greenery, heirloom china, and glassware make each space feel unique and long-lasting.

TEXTURED WALLS

White walls have enjoyed the spotlight for a while now, but at Jkath, we have a soft spot for finishes that bring a bit more personality. Whether a small accent behind the coffee bar or a whole-room application, timeless textures like wood paneling, brick, plaster, and wallpaper all bring richness and a cozy atmosphere to your space.

QUIET LUXURY

We’ve always been about craftsmanship and longevity. So we’re thrilled to see the design industry at large shifting this way, too. Investing well means you can invest just once, plus quality craftsmanship and solid materials always look and feel better.

So what does quiet luxury look like in interior design?

Solid wood, natural materials, and classic furniture silhouettes that eschew trends. We love layering textures, textiles, and timeless color palettes to ensure our homes are beautiful not only on install day but for years to come.

TRADITIONAL MILLWORK

Given our origins as a custom cabinetry studio, it should come as no surprise: if there’s an artfully crafted, beautifully detailed option, we’re all for it.

From moldings and wall paneling to inset cabinetry and custom trim details, we love seeing more craftsmanship and creativity in today’s millwork. Whether painted to match the walls, bright white for a pop of contrast, or a rich wood tone, traditional millwork details bring an air of luxury and timeless beauty to every space.
