Introducing a Contemporary Industrial Kitchen Renovation

This summer is shaping up to be a very busy one for our team, which we're incredibly thankful for! One of our newest kitchen renovations is the #WoodlawnAve project in the Highland Park neighborhood, just a short 1.5 miles from our office in St. Paul. This homeowner bought this home at the end of Spring and sought out Jkath to overhaul the kitchen before moving in this Fall.

Jkath will be remodeling the kitchen and opening up the floor plan to the dining room and living room. We're designing around a structural post in the middle of the floor plan, making it an architectural divisive feature.

BEFORE

The existing kitchen was in decent condition but the existing layout did not maximize the generous amount of space there is on this main floor. Nor was it to our client's design taste.

The entire kitchen has been gutted. The walls dividing the kitchen, dining room and living room are all demoed and a new post as been put in place for support. The exterior door and window in the kitchen have been removed to make room for a new higher window to all for cabinetry to run along that wall. A new sliding door in the dining room will give access to the back patio and large yard.

KITCHEN DESIGN

While we may not be working with the 20' tall ceilings of these inspiration images, we're working within our means to accomplish a contemporary design. Natural light was a major design goal for the homeowner. Pella Lifestyle Series windows with black grilles will accomplish the contemporary industrial aesthetic the client is going for as well as let in a ton of light.

On the left is the existing "before" layout of the kitchen and dining room. On the right is the new floor plan. A secondary storage island will serve as a divider for the open concept main floor, as well as make the structural post more cohesive. A large center island in the kitchen, in a beautiful rich Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black, has ample seating and storage.

Replacing and centering the kitchen window and removing the exterior door gave an additional 13' of prep and storage space, as well as a new location for the sink. A full Monogram package of appliances will really take this kitchen design to the next level with a Professional 36" dual-fuel range with griddle.

The Jkath Cabinet Shop will make slab front cabinetry to comply with the contemporary design and Jeffrey Court Dias Brick porcelain tile to tie in the industrial elements. We're also working on a fun antique glass mirror element incorporated behind the gorgeous Monogram range.

I'm really excited about the countertop selection: Cloudburst Concrete by Caesarstone. This quartz surface will of course be zero maintenance, and also has beautiful movement with industrial design. We saw full slabs of this stone at KBIS earlier this year and it was a crowd favorite.

This project is very different in terms of aesthetic compared to what we've done in the past and that is very exciting to us. The project is well underway and expected to wrap up early Fall for the homeowner to move in. We can't wait to see the final result.

Cheers to All,

Katie Miller + Jkath Team
