1926 Restoration

Updated: Sep 9, 2019

As we are wrapping up a few city jobs this month, we take a moment to reflect on the process. In the pipeline is one of our favorite reveals of this city home in Tangletown, Minneapolis. It's a tribute to the character and history of this home, with modern upgrades. It's also very much aligned with overall design trends we saw throughout 2016. This house was purchased with the intent of making the kitchen and dining space an open floor plan and adding functionality and maximizing the floor plan for this young family.

The original kitchen, with updates in the 1980's, melamine cabinets and plastic floor tiles. (hmm, no thanks :)

View into the dining room and of the wall to be torn down for expanded living/dining space.

Once we started the demo we ran into flooring reminiscent of the early 1900's. Oak floor meets maple flooring, Maple flooring was a lesser product and typically outfitted the kitchen, the area the servants spent time preparing meals. The space in between the two flooring options was the wall that once existed.

A few more before images of the dining room, powder bath and more demo.. wall down and kitchen with all cabinets and appliances removed.

Putting the pieces back together. We had a specific design vision. Shaker style cabinets, inset design. Painted with a Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray island, White Dove uppers and back cabinets with Cambria ™ countertops (featuring two of the newly released designs!). The lighting and tile were carefully sourced to honor the early 1900 character of this home. This is a 3D rendering expressing some of these details.

The cabinets are crafted in our shop are installed, with the island painted in Chelsea Gray.

The powder bath showing modern updates with subway and mini hexagon tile. The walls are painted in the same Chelsea Gray.

... getting there. Rear entry outfitted with black hexagon tile.

Current kitchen status, backsplash tile added, countertops installed. Appliances, lighting and hardware next.

It's coming together fast, we're excited for the final reveal. Our team has worked around the clock to make this happen in almost record time. Stay tuned as we share the final kitchen and expanded living space. The lighting is worth the wait.. oh and the Brizo kitchen faucet, #yesplease.
