Our Eternal Love for Subway Tile

Subway tile is one of the most versatile tiles and can be used in almost any application. It’s roots originate from the New York subway system dating back to 1904, and used in commercial and residential applications. The early design concept wanted a tile that was easy to clean and maintain, while also visually appealing. They settled on a white, rectangular ceramic tile that measured 3×6 inches, and the subway tile was born.

Subway tile is timeless, and can often be a grounding neutral and textural element in any space while allowing other elements to take center stage. Using a variation of this tile can create a mix of design styles, from contemporary, to traditional we’re sharing a few of our recent installations today.

Textured Subway Tiles

Textured subway tiles add visual interest and depth to a room. Whether it’s a handmade tile or a more pronounced texture, these tiles can create a unique and dynamic look.

Vertical Stacking

For a modern and sleek look, consider stacking subway tiles vertically. This arrangement adds height to a space and creates a contemporary feel.

Herringbone Pattern

Arranging subway tiles in a herringbone pattern creates a dynamic and eye-catching design. This pattern works well as a floor pattern in mudrooms or powder bathrooms.

Basketweave Subway

Basketweave subway tiles are perfect for creating a focal point or adding dimension to an otherwise plain wall or floor. They can also be used as accents or borders in larger areas to break up the monotony of traditional patterns. Peep the custom Murphy Vanity from our signature collection.
