Modern Minimalism on the Mississippi River Banks

On the banks of the Mississippi River, this main floor renovation brings the outdoors in with expanded views of the river. Neutral design elements and warm tones show up in many places, feeling timeless, organic, and functional for this young family. Custom elements with decorative kitchen island details, a maximized foyer, and playful patterns in the kid’s bathroom add personality to make this home truly unique. A modern minimalist space to last for decades ahead.

Kitchen Window With a View

When designing this space with our clients, creating an open floor plan with expansive views to the back yard was a critical design element. Opening the space, removing walls, and replacing the riverside windows with large picture windows became early design ideas that we were able to design the remainder of the space around.

The New Neutral Cabinetry Color

The new neutral for custom cabinetry is anything but white while learning soft and subtle, yet willing to hold up to bold elements of black windows and gold hardware. We used Sherwin Williams Limewash on the perimeter cabinets with a natural stain on the white oak kitchen island.

Contrasting Warm Wood Ceiling Beams

The warm tone ceiling beams are an original element to this home, with much discussion to leave these alone, paint them new, or possibly remove them altogether, we are thrilled with the final decision to leave these alone. They add warmth and depth to this space we were not otherwise creating. Paired here with the white oak foyer details.

We refreshed the entire main floor, capturing the two bathrooms, which are adjacent to one another. slightly modifying the layout, creating space for a beautiful walk-in shower in the primary bath, and preserving the bathtub and all-new vanity with upgraded finishes in the kid’s bathroom.
