Main Level Makeover with a Modern Kitchen to Swoon Over

Over and over again we talk about the importance of trust between a homeowner and their design and build team. Our Deephaven Drive project client epitomized that notion and it paid off! From the onset the goal of this renovation was to make the main level a place where family and friends enjoyed to gather together. A functional and high fashion kitchen, ample and comfortable seating areas, and well-styled finished spaces were the goals. The Jkath Design team created the vision and the Build team executed it beautifully.

The Kitchen

The two design parameters requested for the kitchen were wood cabinets and to keep the engineered wood floors, wood window and base trim. Throughout the kitchen there are several different wood species and finishes. We heavily leaned on Jesse’s experience and knowledge of wood to ensure everything could live cohesively together in one space.

The perimeter cabinetry is a show stopping quartered red elm veneer, carrying a continuous vertical grain from floor to ceiling. It is the perfect species to complement the rich tones in the engineered maple wood floor with subtle red hues. The burnished brass cabinet and appliance hardware were a design-must have. Their heavy hand and rich warm tones stood out against the cabinetry in just the right way.

The combined kitchen, dining room and keeping room is large. Large enough to accommodate a double sided island with ample seating for the family and then some. To contrast the perimeter red elm cabinetry, the island is a rift oak stained black. We opted for stained wood for the added grain texture over smooth painted lacquer. A beautifully crafted walnut butcher block countertop breaks up the quartz countertop through the island and backsplash in the range alcove.

Centered between archways leading into the living room, the range wall features a clean lined modern alcove. The quartz countertop carries up through the backsplash to a reclaimed antique elm band. Small niches on the sides of the alcove legs give room for every day cooking essentials.

The Living Room

Despite its large size and cozy fireplace the main living room was rarely used by the family. The homeowner wanted a space that was comfortable and well designed to encourage gathering together in. So we restarted furnishings and decor from scratch.

The original fireplace stone was kept in tact, but the built-ins received a facelift. The existing base cabinets got painted and bookshelves went to the ceilings instead of the half-height they were before. White oak ceiling beams and a new fireplace mantel were added to bring additional warmth and character with a large chandelier.

The Jkath Design team was hired to select furnishings, decor and to style the space. We love how this space came together to feel cozy and modern.

Powder Bathroom

What was a deep red painted cave received a makeover as well. Simple modifications including a wallpaper feature wall, fresh paint, new faucet and light fixture, and accessories make this space feel brand new.

The front foyer is a welcoming entrance to the home with a modern wood and metal rod bench. Accessories and a new light fixture replaced builder grade finishes to introduce the modern interiors beyond the front door.

This home is ready to welcome family and friends for everything from special occasions to everyday life.
