Live in the Details®: Gender Neutral Nursery Designs with Links
Nurseries are so fun to design. These sweet spaces are an opportunity to incorporate colors, patterns, and textures we may not use elsewhere in our home. The best part? A baby doesn’t judge.
When I (Katie Wick) found out I was pregnant the nursery was one of my earliest thoughts. Scratch that, I’ve thought about my future baby’s nursery long before this baby was an apple in my eye. However, I knew it was going to be a challenge for me to narrow down the design for this space. I made my husband the client and created a couple design boards and had him involved in the evolution of the design.
Today I am sharing gender neutral nursery designs on the spectrum of calm neutrality to wild wonderful and all in between.

Some of the resources we link to may earn us a small commission. For that we are thankful, but would never push items we aren’t truly passionate about, and likely have already given it a test drive.
Tips for Designing a Nursery
1. Consider long term how this space will feel and function as Baby grows into toddler and childhood stages. Select furniture that can evolve for different uses throughout the years.2. Lean into playful patterns and colors.3. Create a space that makes you, the parent, happy and comfortable to be in.4. Use what you have (or what others have). While it is exciting to get all new furniture consider pieces you have in your home that can be repurposed for Baby’s room.5. Don’t limit yourself to the Baby/Nursery/Kids sites. “Grown up” furniture can work in a nursery too.
Water Baby
Inspired by Minnesota lake life, create a serene oasis with a soft color palette and playful mindset. Vertical paneled walls will remind you of family vacations at the cabin, painted in a sweet blue. Furniture with natural materials such as wood and caning brings the outdoors in.

Cozy Minimalist Nursery
The word “minimalist” does not need to be synonymous with cold or boring. Minimalist design is styling with intention. We want a nursery to be cozy by using rich textiles and warm colors that feels like a warm hug.

Incorporating colors in sweet and simple ways with accessories and toys while keeping the foundation neutral. This design can play with a pop of color on the walls or easily be just as stunning with a neutral white or gray.
