Cozy Basement Living
This home was built in 2000, with an 18 year history of raising kids. For a lower level, you want a space you can relax in, while also creating an inviting, hosting atmosphere. Our design challenge here was pulling off two moods in one space; to create a space that the whole family could use.

With high schoolers at home, our clients knew they wanted to update their lower level for more functionality and entertaining, a welcoming space for their kids friends and gatherings.

Finding the perfect throw pillow makes all the difference. Every space can be upgraded, it all depends on the clients needs and wants and of course budget. Some must haves for this client were a relaxing space for the teenagers and family movie nights, while also making space for the adults to relax.
We often get asked how we can look at a space and transform it into something completely different. We often start with a few mood boards to set the tone, see what our clients are loving, what we can further develop, as well as remove any components the client isn’t loving.

We find inspiration the same way you do, Pinterest, Instagram, showrooms, and of course pull from our favorite design partners to complete the look. Once a design is established we get to work with our team and cabinet shop to see what challenges they may see or questions the team may have.

These wide plank engineered hard wood floors from Unique Wood Floors have the best durability for foot traffic, especially with a seasonal ice rink just outside the sliding door. We also love the finish, it’s the perfect blend of rustic and contemporary.

Let’s talk about how fun these bar stools are. It’s becoming more and more popular to bring wicker furniture indoors. These bar stools uphold a classy look while also creating a laid back feel, so new and old guests feel welcomed into the space… and want to stay awhile!
We love the simple lighting in this space, creating a laid back atmosphere with the barstools. These gold Schoolhouse pendants can be found here. And the black scones are available here. These sconces are go to pieces, we use in many of our projects.

Open shelving creates just the right amount of contrast and detail to the space while adding functionality to give our clients more storage space. The ones pictured above are custom from our cabinet shop, however there are plenty of affordable options online. Entertaining for this family just got easier for not only the teenagers, but the adults too. Fire up the Keurig and gather around the table or tv, this is the perfect lazy Sunday morning set up.
Bringing the details together for a space is one of our favorite parts about completing a project. The maps we sourced in the basement living room were found on mapiful and etsy. A fin roundup of this families travels around the globe, they will continue to add destinations in the coming years. You can find the satin brass cabinet hardware pulls that we used here.

Our clients fell in love with this oversized pendant light above the dining room table.

Complete with custom storage, modern farmhouse vibes, and natural light, this space captures cozy. What I would do for a cozy weekend staycation at this place! #alisonway
