Updated Farmhouse Kitchen : Before + After

True story. It was a Sunday afternoon Spring 2016 and Jesse’s cell phone rang. We were just pulling into home after running errands and the Wild were playing. Jesse was not eager to take the call, it was an unfamiliar number. My eyes popped out of my head and I exclaimed that this could be the call to take.. I am working too dang hard on Instagram and other social channels marketing the business for us to simply not take a call. Ok, so in hindsight.. we’re working on better boundaries and making sure we have time for ourselves and our family.. and we no longer take ‘random’ Sunday calls, but this was a good one. It was a cold call from Instagram, the client had found us, he was close to making an offer on a house. He needed a quick bid from a local remodeler as he and his wife + baby on the way had plans to reno the entire main floor. I think when Jesse pressured the soon to be client for not being a Wild fan and calling during playoff’s, it was an instant connection (insert eye roll from me in the passenger seat). “Honey you were right, they found us on instagram” were his next words.

Instantly Scott and Kelly shared creative ideas, innovation, and eagerness to ‘push the envelope’ YES! But first.. let’s take a peak at some of the before images:

Typical mid century home, so many cabinets, even with the upper cabinets over the peninsula. While we all love decent storage, there certainly has been a movement to a minimalist way of living. Having that expanded living space for entertaining far outweighs the storage. It was clear this entire kitchen would have to undergo a complete demo and rebuild from scratch. It didn’t take us long to get down to the bare bones of this space and start playing with floor inspiration.

Quickly, the design palate came together. Painted cabinetry, brass hardware, quartz countertops, warm toned subway tile for backsplash, and of course those floors. The wall had come down in between the kitchen and the living space, what a better way to transition the two spaces than ‘out of the box’ hex tiles with the soon to be installed engineered wood floors.

We did renovate the entire main floor, including 3 bedrooms and flooring throughout, all new baseboards, trim and window casings, passage doors, hardware, and lighting fixtures. The kitchen stands out as the focal point of the space with so many creative upgrades.

We added custom alder wood beams to the family room for additional character.

This modern farmhouse sanctuary is exactly what our clients were after with their family just beginning and baby #1 on the way. Open space for entertaining, newly remodeled bedrooms for a new nursery, master suite and guest bedroom (come on over mom & dad!). This project was such a fun opportunity and we couldn’t be happier with the final product.
